If you like to make art

PictureThis is a painting I created "Summer Women."
I really like art. If you are like me you work on artwork in your free time. I am always happy when I hear about opportunities to show my art. I learn about most of these opportunities from friends in the disability or art communities.  Some of my successes in art have been providing paintings for disability advocacy groups like UCP and CACIL and the production of art for events like a 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act celebration and a Martin Luther King breakfast.

In my apartment I created a space for painting. This allows me to do art on my schedule and not have to worry about finding work space. I work on art on my spare time at my pace. My love for creating art started when I was a child and continues today. I enjoy making art and see it as part of my life. As I matured as an artist I began to take more interest in the art of others.  If you consider yourself an artist I would say it is never too early or too late to seek out opportunities to show your work.  In fact art is like anything else the way you get confidence is through trial and error and practice.

This month the Institute on Disabilities (IOD) is looking for two dimensional art for their calendar.  I will submit three pieces and I encourage you to submit your work as well. If you want your work to be shown and consider yourself artistic this is a great opportunity to have your work shown.  If this opportunity interests you like it dose me you have until Friday, June 26, 2015 to submit your work.  This is a national calendar that provides great exposure to disabled artists.  This is just one opportunity but there are many more that can be found by reading art magazines and look for postings online. For more information on the IOD 2015 calendar contact the IOD.  The website is http://www.iod.unh.edu/about/news/14-06-10/institute_on_disability_seeks_artists_for_2015_calendar.aspx
